Reporting to LUPD
Need immediate assistance?
Call LUPD at (504) 865-3434. Report emergencies and situations requiring an immediate police response by phone. Do not use anonymous tips or online reporting for emergencies.
Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to promptly report crimes, emergencies, and suspicious activity to LUPD, whether they occur on or off campus. Prompt reporting helps the department respond and notify the university community when appropriate.
What to report
- Crimes or suspected criminal activity.
- Suspicious activity or circumstances.
- Medical emergencies or injuries.
- Fires, smoke, or other safety hazards.
What to tell the dispatcher
- Your exact location, including the building, room, or nearby landmark.
- What happened and whether it is still happening.
- Whether anyone is injured or in immediate danger.
- Descriptions of people or vehicles involved, including their direction of travel.
Move to a safe location if you can, follow the dispatcher’s instructions, and stay on the line until told to hang up.
